Week 2: 1:34 training
Week one was good - hard and definitely showed me that I have a ways to go in the speed department to get back to where I was a few months ago. I've got a tempo-ish run every week to get my body use to harder, sustained efforts.
I started off Monday morning with a 15 min tempo at 7-7:10 pace. I like to run on the waterfront because it's flat and straight. It was a bit busier than I had imagined on Monday morning so I had a few bumps, wrong turns and people to deal with. I ended up running 7:01 and 7:08. I felt good up until min 12 and that's when I felt like I couldn't hold it anymore.
Tuesday was a 6 mile hilly run up to Pittock Mansion but let's be real here, I walked about 1/2 of the uphill part. It was SO HARD. My lungs felt like they couldn't get any breath, my legs were exhausted and it just wasn't happening. I know the rule - don't stop, just slow down, but I listened to my body and it was screaming - literally screaming - at me to stop. Looking back at my day, I don't think I ate enough to sustain me so lesson learned!
Today I'm off to a spin class at a new-to-me studio in PDX. Here's to resting my legs!
